On Friday, May 6th (weather permitting) local first responders will partner with Life Flight to conduct an emergency response drill. Captain Chris Bersin, of the Logan-Trivoli FPD (Lake Camelot Firehouse) and Illini Bluffs alumnus, is spearheading this multi-unit response drill. This group of responders would like to use this opportunity to educate IB students on these vital community services. The drill will take place on school grounds near the elementary basketball court and the grass area near the soccer field.
At roughly 2:00pm, the Life Flight helicopter will be landing near the soccer field. Local first responders will be using extraction tools on a vehicle to simulate rescuing a trapped driver, they will then practice loading a patient (rescue dummy) onto a gurney, loading the gurney into the helicopter, and Life Flight leaving with the patient. At the conclusion of the drill, first responders – nurses, doctors, local fire protection, etc. – would like to have middle and high school students interested in related professions stay to learn more about career opportunities.
We appreciate the efforts of our first responders and their willingness to use this training as an opportunity to educate our students. We wanted to make the community aware of the drill and to expect the presence of first responders and Life Flight on school grounds Friday afternoon.
